mimeryme
Basically, you want the two computers in the same workgroup (on XP, it's on SystemProperties>ComputerName>[Change...]). Make sure to edit software firewall config to allow for trusted network.
Argonaut
smek is right, the proper set up should be... pc____ .............>-----router---modem---internet laptop--/ same workgroup and subnet for both enable file and printer sharing on the comp with printer attached, select the properties of hte printer and tick on "Share" On the other, simply go to network neighbourhood, select the other comp, and when you see the printer select it. THats it....
SMeK Veteran Posted September 2, 2003 Veteran Share Posted September 2, 2003 i think either cable modem is a network card (most cable setups you connect to the box using a normal ethernet card) or the router is a hub not a router if it is a hub then just setup both pcs on the same work group as someone else said ^^^ if you put workgroup in as the workgroup it should be fine you can share drives or printers simply by right clicking on them in explorer or my computer and going to sharing you may have trouble with the laptop accessing the xp machine if you do put an account on the xp machine with the same login and password as used on the laptop and maybe vise versa for the laptop
