Bioslayer
Hey guys, I want to start a website. I already reserved the domain and setup hosting with invisionpower.com. So when I go to the site I get a directory with cgi-bin and a folder for forums. My question is what do I do now? And can anyone recommend some good website making software? Thanks, BioSlayer
mercuryx013
Macromedia Dreamweaver is good. But you will need mroe than just a piece of software to make a decent web site. You will need to learn PHP, java, and whatever else you owuld like your site to do.
Bioslayer
Will dreamweaver update my site? like with the new content I made?
uniacid
you would have to update it manually with dreamweaver, the reason for learning php is so you can build a post system that saves to a mysql database, what is your site going to be for? you could just use invisionboard and IPDynamic Lite

JMann Veteran Posted September 7, 2003 Veteran Share Posted September 7, 2003 I do a lot of Website design, so these programs should help you. Yes, Macromedia Dreamweaver is excellent, but fairly costly. Yes, you will have to learn ideally HTML and PHP and Java so go buy yourself some books and start reading! I also suggest you take a look at W3Schools because they provide good examples about HTML and PHP which I like. Now for the programs, for your FTP program use WSFTP from here. and that should have your FTP access sorted. Now if you want a HTML script writing program use Evrsofts Firstpage 2000. It is really good, but only for people who have a basic or advanced knowledge of HTML. If you want a program which composes the HTML for you and you just do the design use Frontpage Express which might be lurking on one of your Office Cd's in a back drawer somewhere. Or you can use Dreamweaver. They are the best and the easiest to get along with. But personally I think you cant beat your own composed HTML, it does things your way and no-body elses. :D One suggestion is that you could use the Software from ASP.net as they provide software not just for XML or ASP pages but HTML aswell so definately give that one a try as it is free. Good Luck! :woot: Jmann90

Galley_SimRacer
I use SpiderWriter with my site. When I publish my site, it autmatially uploads all the changed pages. http://www.spidewriter.com/ TSW Web Coder Pro also has the same functionality, and it's free for personal use. http://pro.tsware.net/
