DsnBehind
I forgot how I came to be at the AOL Hometown website (seletive memory), but an ad on a page there had an odd link: If you can not read it, it is aol://4344:986.MW421.42447080.738011589/ I didn't know AOL had links. (I was viewing the source to add it to my HOSTS file.)

Frank
Back in the day of AOL 3.0, that?s all they had was internal links. I believe when they went to 4.0 that is when they started to transfer their proprietary links to web links. This is probably just one that?s left over, or maybe something that just AOL members can use.
AQUaDeX
well they still use this kind of links, (almost) every single page/link on AOL has an address like this, for example if you put an artist as keyword (eg. Seal, I like him :p), you will see all the music video/audio are being linked by an address like the one DsnBehind posted
Steven
you can type or enter an AOL:// link in your run box or open it as a favorite, AOL software will launch and take you to the address. All AOL Chat rooms have an AOL:// Adress as well as every single Keyword and etc. on the AOL software.
