A virus maybe?

Recommended Posts

Hello, for the last couple of days 5 of our 20 computers

at work have been behaving very weird.

They crash often when opening certain programs, and they

often do not find the mouse when you start up the

computer. Also some computers experience "port in use"

error message when trying to print.

I realise this sounds like a virus, but ive dnoe

everything online scan I can think of and it has found

nothing!

Win 98 is running on the client machines and win 2000 on

the server.

Any ideas?

Thanks

JohnB :)

So you do not have installed desktop scanners? You only use online scans?? Install desktop scanners on ALL of your machines - What does the server have on it?? Nothing??

So billy brings in a worm/virus on a floppy - next thing you know your whole network is infected, and every file on your server is infected/destroyed, etc..!! You NEED to be running a scanner on your Desktops - and your File Servers!!!

At the moment we are purcharing the full version of norton AV, so the main prog will be on the server and thin version on the client machines. Things have been somewhat delayed in getting it but i'm hoping we will have it soon.In the mean time yes we have had to rely on free scanners. I know its not ideal but thats just the way it was.

And we dont allow our workers to use flopps disks as there is no need.

I dont think formatting a pc will work!!! more work for me, with i bet not good results!
