Flash built in to Android?

Recommended Posts

JI have a Google Nexus S with Android 2.3.3 and just want to know if Adobe Flash was built into the OS and if so, what version is included with 2.3.x?

I understand Flash 10.2 is available in the market but just wondering if something like 10.1 is already bundled into Android.

Thanks in advance.

Flash isn't built in to Android, but the proper hooks into the system so that it can run smoothly are. Adobe Flash 10.1 was the first release of Flash for Android, and it was available on the market. Now 10.2 is available and you should absolutely upgrade, however, unless you have Honeycomb, your version of Android isn't going to get everything out of 10.2 that it can. It will run as well or better than 10.1 did still though.

So to answer your question, no, it's not built in, it's a separate install.

Correct. Even apps like Gmail and Google Maps are not technically part of the OS. However, phone manufacturers will bundle the most commonly used apps like Flash 10.1 and 10.2 into the phone. To the untrained eye it seems as though its part of the OS, but it is not.
