m4ch1n3g0d
I know there are a few threads here dealing with peoples opinions on music, and someone brought up the point of eminem winning an award in the now closed eminem thread. Well, i dont mean to strike up another argument, but i cant believe the sheep mentality it takes to judge what is good or not by who is winning awards. First of all, isnt it fairly obviouse that these grammy/emmy/mtv awards are for the most part set up anyways? I mean, michael bolton wins emmys, doesnt mean he is any less fake or crappy than he was before he won an award. Also, if you judge your opinion on music by whats hot and winning awards, shouldnt we all be listening to the prefabricated mouskateer crap that walks off of american idol or something? Just wondering what others opinons are. I honestly dont know what happened to good music here lately, as i dont hear much of it being made. At least none that reaches the charts or wins awards. Hope i havent started up another thread that will start an argument and get locked.
Keldyn
I don't watch award shows. Personally, I think there is a lot of money changing hands behind the scenes...

Exactly, thats what i think too. But the second they win an award, everyone runs out and buys their albums. I swear its annoying.
sphere
I do get fed up sometimes with the music award shows. You can usually predict who the winner will be. I don't think there is enough credit going to the artists who actually write and play their own music very well and don't do it for the fame and fortune. Most of these bands I know of are rock, but I'm sure there are other artists that fall into this category as well.

m4ch1n3g0d
BTW, I like your website shane, very nice design. I can tell you put alot of effort into it. And yes, there is actually alot of great music being made, writen by incredibly creative people, that will never get anywhere, while other musicians who couldnt write a song if there life depended on it or can even reproduce the music on their albums LIVE, win awards. m4ch1n3g0d
You know what i like to see? Incredibly ugly people with accoustic guitars play incredibly beautiful music that they have written. Now thats REAL music. Especially when they start to get somewhere. They didnt get there by their looks, and they surely didnt get there by any help. Thats a rare thing man.

Most of these bands I know of are rock, but I'm sure there are other artists that fall into this category as well. Jay-Z is one of them.... before he was a "hit" he used to rap w/ this guy named J-ru or jayru ... something like that.. anyway they were good buddies, but then gay-z started singing about your typical rap, just in a different voice and made it big and left his buddy and doesn't care about him anymore... my friend mimi's boyfriend is jayru and she told me that story.. also something you don't know... snoop dogg always has parties and stuff at his house and of coarse you have people who try and rap, so snoop hosts rap battles at his house.. and one day mimi was there doing her rap battle.. after she was done, she was looking for a restroom but opened the wrong door. basically she found that the whole house is wired. so snopp and his crew have been recording the rap battles and using it for their own music. thank you for the info mimi
sphere
It gets to me becasue I'm not aware of all the talent I am missing out on. For a fair few of the bands I enjoy listening to, I have found through other means other than the radio, tv or music store. For example, a couple of my favourite bands now I first heard about on Neowin. That's another thing also, the radio. The majority of songs on the radio are teenie pop tunes that get repeated around about 10 times throughout the day. I think there are only a couple of stations which nearly do a good job at trying to stay away from this. Thanks Keldyn. It won't happen again
m4ch1n3g0d
Heres a quesiton, does music and televison reflect our culture and ideas, or does it more or less control it? And if it does control it, which i seriously think might be the case, who controls music and televison? Our government? Just a theory...... I thought it was kinda funny that even durring a war, American Idol was so incredibly huge. Millions of people were voting and tuning in. I dont know, just seemed kinda odd to me, but hey, im crazy! m4ch1n3g0d
And another thing, Reality Televison! I mean, forget intellectual thought. Lets just go straight to gossip, because thats all anyone concerns themselves with anymore. Thats all that reality televison is, its just gossip. Televisionized gossip, so that once you get home from gossiping all day at work about everyone, you can tune into Jack Billionare and watch other people gossip. Aint it just great? I am seriously disgusted by it all. Anyways, im going to bed now. Goodnight people.

Wow, you need to come take the class I'm in right now. It's all about this stuff. It's called Mass Media and Society. Today, we were talking about exactly this kind of stuff. What it comes down to is that a handful of VERY large corperations own and control most (if not all) of what's on TV, radio, and newspapers. SCARY! We recieved this link in class today and it shows you a map of who controls what. You may be surprised. I've actually got a class to go to now, otherwise i would elabortate much more. Albino
VERY interesting site...allthough some things posted there are hard to believe... I support the opinion that today it's not anymore what we like or want...it's more what brings more money to the big bosses, and they are trying to control our lives with stupid tv shows, like if we are born to watch tv...
