BobMatthijs
I am sick and tired of having to have my roommates pc on to use the internet. We currently have an ethernet set up through a hub, and my roommates pc is connected though dialup adsl with a BT USB ADSL modem. How on earth can i get the internet shared between our pcs without needing one pc on? (ie. constant internet access, either through a router or a switch). My main problem seems to be that the modem is a USB dialup one, adn i do not want to use a lot of money on a router, which i find are too expensive. I am looking to spend a maximum of ?50 on this What is is that i need? And where can i get it form? Cheers,
Frank
With your budget, I would find an OLD Pentium 2, probably 200 MHz with USB support, and have it run the connection. Just leave it on 24/7.

Frank
Yes, if you had a Modem like the Cisco 670 series, you could plug it right into a Router/Firewall Appliance (I recommend D-Link, but that?s just me). You can probably find a pretty good deal on eBay for both of these items.

Dont forget, currently i have to dial up to connect to bt adsl for some reason, will the router automatically keep me connected? http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/in...oduct_uid=37451 http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/in...oduct_uid=48449

Frank
I am not sure about your "Dial Up" issue with the ADSL. You may want to contact your ISP to see if that modem will work on their network.

mAcOdIn Veteran Posted September 15, 2003 Veteran Share Posted September 15, 2003 ANy more ideas, plz help  Fowen's right not all modems work over all ISP's. You need to ask them what model dsl modems are supported by them. All we can due is guess, and that could just mean wasted cash for you. But to answer your question, yes if you had a standard dsl modem that used ethernet you could buy any router that supports PPOE and be fine.
