Eidos will not support the GameCube anymore

Recommended Posts

Eidos will not publish any more games on the Nintendo GameCube.

Eidos does not see the GameCube as profitable; even though last year was very profitable for Eidos, the GameCube games were only a small percentage of the overall sales.

"The GameCube is a declining business" were the words of McGarvey, chief executive for Eidos, who said they had stopped production for GameCube games due to slow sales last month.

In other news, Free Radical, developers of Time Splitters will not be working with Eidos anymore after they announced the finalcial earnings for the year ending on June 2003. Free Radical still owns the rights to Time Splitters, so the third installment of the series could be released if they found another publisher; it will obviously be easy to find, since Time Splitters 2 was a very successful multiconsole game, and due to this, there are chances that it gets released on the GameCube.

What's new? I could count the number of good games they've released on the Cube on two fingers.

Hitman 2 and Timesplitters 2, and one of those developers has left Eidos since releasing the game.

And the other game was a port released almost a year after the PS2/Xbox versions.

Heck, I could probably even count the number of total Cube games they've released on one hand.

I agree, I don't think they had any impact on my gaming for the cube, only game I got that was published from them was Timesplitters 2 and they left after they heard about their financial situation.

And we know Ts3 will be picked up by another publisher (ts2 was too good of a seller not too) so really no worries at all from me ;)

Maybe if these companies didn't offer ported crap, more people would buy the games. I think people are just getting smarter with their money and not buying anything less than quality on a Nintendo machine.

I don't really care for Eidos leaving the Cube, since it didn't quite involved with the Nintendo console anyway, but what worry me the most is the fact that another publisher leave the GCN. They all seem to leave Nintendo behind, one after the other, weither it's by cancelling some games or stopping publishing at all on the GCN.

Maybe fanboys will say: ? Bah, don't worry, Nintendo can stand on it's own! ?, but I just hope there won't be too many who will take the same way as Eidos did.

Square left, Square came back. If there's money to be made, then the publisher will stay. If they suck like Eidos then ... they'll leave.
