devnulllore
Any suggestions for the best and safest reg cleaning tool for Windows 7. I tried using my System Mechanic I used on XP but it F**ked up all my drive pointers in the registry. Took 3 restores to get it right. Thanks. 0 redvamp128
Personally I use CCleaner and uncheckmark everything then manually remove them if I know I don't need them- - Like installer files for .net for other languages that seem to be left over. I would not do the -- FIX all....without prompting me at least. Though -- Suggestion--- DON"T use any for the first year then maybe you accumulated enough stuff there for it to remove. 0 devnulllore
Sorry to chime in again so late but I saw my post used to recommend someone read on the regcleaner question. In my hours and hours of testing and restoring I have learned that there is no good or "safe" regcleaner NO MATTER WHAT the company says, even if it's a very reputable company. They all use the same algorithms and they are old and DO cause more harm than good. "IF" I use anything I use CCleaner, run an analysis and hand pick which entries to remove, only because I have done months of work with the registry and haven't screwed it up this way yet....yet. I only do it when and if I install or remove some big programs or change drive letters etc... and I always create a system restore point AND export the registry through regedit first. 0 wahoospa
I have 1 desktop and 1 laptop running at the same time throughout most of the day and I have used ccleaner for about 3 years and never had a problem to date. I use ccleaner several times a day when the machines are running.
0 +Warwagon MVC Posted October 19, 2011 MVC Share Posted October 19, 2011 The safest reg cleaning tool, is not to use one at all! Oops looks like I already responded to this post. didn't realized it was bumped. Oh well in the past months my opinion hasn't changed.
0 cork1958
I use Crap Cleaner religiously and on every machine I touch and it's NEVER messed up the registry. I don't even both looking at what it says it's about to remove either. I'd be willing to bet I run it 12 times a day sometimes. Anyone who thinks that cleaning the registry doesn't do anything is flat out nuts!! Sure, it may take eons to notice how a dirty registry has slowed down todays computers, which is half the reason they have to make them with such powerful cpu's and so much memory, but why let it pile up junk? Because most of the people that visit this site are afraid to stray from defaults. I second what you said; I've never EVER had a problem with CCleaner, and I have it installed on a lot of computers.
