Although I don't quite fancy her music, I'd have to say that she's pretty talented. I mean you can't quite classify her as the typical pop material. She's been around longer than most modern artists, and that goes to show that her music is appealing to some bunch. Alos, her material is pretty creative (don't know about her most recent), but couple of years back....it was pretty stunning and new.

I've been a Madonna fan for a good portion of 15 years. Now, before you dismiss me as another fanboy fanatic, hear me out! I am a fan of hers because she has the ability to manipulate the media, cause dialog, and overtly push seemingly "taboo" topics into the home. I agree she certainly doesn't have the best singing voice, and she sounds much better in the studio than she ever will live. She is also one of the poorest actresses I have ever watched. However, she has an uncanny ability to stay somewhat relevant, changing her styles. From her bubblegum pop roots of Like a Virgin and True Blue, to her more current exploits of Electronica (i.e. Die Another Day, Impressive Instant, Nobody Knows Me). Think about that. After 20 years, people (some, not all) still care about her music, her image, and what she has to say. She could have easily gone the way of Paula Abdul, Cyndi Lauper, and so many other artists that fell by the way side in the 80's. Instead, she came out of it, changed her image, and still made people sit up and take notice. I don't care what people say, that certainly takes SOME talent.

So what if she isn't the best singer or actress? I don't think she wants to be. She's just interested in expressing herself, staying relevant, and pursuing the dollar. What's wrong with that?

Just my 2 cents. ;)

"No one's telling me how to live my life

Because it's a setup, and I'm just fed up.

It's no good when I'm misunderstood,

So why should I care what the world thinks of me?"

I HAVE to disagree.

Even though Madonna annoys me now, I have to give her respect for her music career. She's been releasing good, original music for longer than a lot of people on this forum have been alive, thats no easy feat.

I think your comment was totally ignorant (and by that I mean no offence to you personally). Talentless? All these new crap man-made pop groups who couldn't even write a single half decent song between them, let alone a lifetimes worth of excellent ones.

Totally agreed, when will they stop churning out these man-made groups who seem to struggle to remember to breathe and smile at the same time. Long live the groups and artists who have spent years writing and performing their work :D

Madonna is one of my favourite artist. She is talented and she's got a great voice IMHO. I don't care much about her kiss with Britney and Christina... - I just like her music.

Technically, Madonna is a lousy singer. But, there is no accounting for taste. (C'mon, people think Mick Jagger is a good singer!)

She's a great marketer. She knows sex sells, and knows how to use the media to her advantage. That's about the total of her talent, tho. Well, she can dance.

Honestly, I find her quite unremarkable. She doesn't even rate as even somewhat of an intellectual. I'm often annoyed that anyone gives her opinion any credence.

Contemporary Madonna sucks:

Frozen, Beatiful stanger... Thats all crap... And shes all hippie, I drink Green tea, yoga, soy eating, Free the whales freak....

However, her 80's music rocked: "Get into the groove song (title?), Material girl, virgin, Just like a prayer, shinning star, vogue... Shes got a lot

Those were good, I dont doubt that her looks helped her popularity ---- making her overated...

Strange: Video did kill the radio star... Look at phil collins, Excellet artist, but as soon people saw his face, WHAm you're old news..

Damn! Well said. Actually I really hate that new Hollywood song. What was she thinking?

I find "her" music much more palettable than the pop stars of today, but that's about it.

Dude - were you around in the 80's? She was a pop tart that no one had seen before, lip syncing and and causing a stir. She set the table for Britne, and Aguilera.

Note that like many artists, she did not write her early stuff

"Borderline" written by Reggie Lucas

"Physical Attraction" - written and produced by Reggie Lucas

"Holiday" written by Curtis Hudson & Lisa Stevens

She was a vehicle for sex back then, and then when she made money, she formed her own label, and now owns her music, and is still a vehicle for sex.

She, if anything, is probably the greatest business woman in the history of the world.

I liked her 80s look, that was hot (Blonde Ambition - ooooo) but then the whole "Poppa Dont Preach" era turned me off - acid wash denim, and homoerotic crap.

I saw her at Moby's "The Church" rave in LA in 1994, and she really did have a presence.

anyway- shes old and tired now.

Plus all you guys saying she is a bad singer . . . well thats so subjective. Singers that I like, my wife loathes. That does not mean they are bad singers.

If you want to rate pop princesses you need to set up an objective test: what is their octave range? Can they sing live every night? Can they sing a capella? Things like that, but jsut blurting out "She Sucks" is retarted.
