poisonarrow
I have a home network consisting of one computer running on Windows 98, one on Windows XP Home and a laptop running Windows XP Pro. They are all connected to each other via ethernet and the laptop is connected wirelessly. So, how can I send and receive messages to and from the other two computers? gam_EZ
if messenger service is enabled you can go to the command prompt and use the 'net send' command... type 'net send /?' to find all the switches

poisonarrow
Winpopup isn't free though. If I install a similar program on the Windows 98 machine, will I have to install the same program on the two Windows XP mahcines to be able to communicate with them? Evizu
Try this, the program is NetD3001. Its shareware but does have functionality, your just limited to sending messages to 30 ip addresses or something like that anyway, its buy the 8th wonder http://www.8th-wonder.net/ware.asp?id=NetD3001 /EDIT - you need windows messenger service active for this to work i believe. also, you could create a simple batch file for the netsend dos command. LUTZIFER
RealPopup is pretty good. More like the original Windows popup, but better. I remember seeing some pretty professional lookin Lan messengers somewhere on Microsofts site befor though. But RealPopup is simple, easy to set up, and works great. RealPopup It's free too.
