cspm2003
I got my network all setup, 1 server, 6 clients, and in the beginning everything was really good. But since today everything is just slow. It takes like 5 minutes till the contents of my mapped network drive on the server get displayed, and datatransfer is very slow to. someone knows why tbe network would slow down that much, or how I can tweak it?? thx
ericnmu
If everything is hooked up right, there should be no reason for it to go slow. Run a virus and ad-aware scan... that would be my first move.
cspm2003
the server is running Norton AV corp, fully updated, the clients all have the client edition from norton corporate, and are managed by the server. All the PCs are literally brand new, the oldest one is one month old, so there shouldn't be much spyware

cspm2003
what have you changed in such a short amount of time? when did you first notice it going slow? I didn't change anything. I setup the network for a company, and everything was running perfect. No problems at all!! Today they called me and said that everything is slow, so I went over there, but couldn't really do anything because everything seemed fine. The only way to speed up the clients was when I restarted them, but after 30mins or so, they started to get slow again

ElectricDemon
could be a firewall provblem perhaps??? I'm not that hot on networking, but I've set up a few in the past and usually I've neglected to fix the firewalls on each machine to allow network communications... Now though, i've learnt my lesson. Just a shot in the dark though....hope you get it sorted
cspm2003
thx for your tips guys. The problem seems to have fixed itself. Now everything looks like it's working again
cspm2003
hurray, it doesn't work again. can it be that the server automatically disconnects the users after a certain ammount of time?? cause thats how it looks like. After some time, I cant access the network drive anymore, nore the server in the "my network" places. If I restart, everything works fine again. If this is tru, how can I disable this feature??' I'm useing server2003 standard edition
Miyagi Son
the server is running Norton AV corp, fully updated, the clients all have the client edition from norton corporate, and are managed by the server. All the PCs are literally brand new, the oldest one is one month old, so there shouldn't be much spyware If you have it to scan every file that is transfed then it will be slowed down. I would not be to worried about a virus inside ur network. I would worry more about firewalls. Get a software and a hardware firewall
Frank
You may also want to check the DHCP server on the lease times. You may be having a problem renewing your IP leases.
