Statikk
I've been thinking of buying a domain for years now but for some reason I think I'm finally going to do it. I don't need any sort of hosting or anything mostly just a forwarding name because what little I will have on my domain will be hosted from my own server. It's currently set-up with a forwarding name from dyndns.org so I would suppose I would just forward my domain to that name. Or would it be possible to run my own DNS Server maybe? My IP only changes maybe once a year. Any suggestions on which service to purchase my domain from?? Once again just a domain. No hosting! Thanks in advance everyone! :) Edit: if this is in the wrong section please move it

ericnmu
------^ what he said. godaddy is the cheapest and has good support. one thing though... when you purchase it, make sure you dont select auto renew, unless you want it that way. i always forget =\
Statikk
Well godaddy sounds like the place then. Does anyone run their own domain server for their domain? I'm not sure how hard it would be to set up or if I should just forward it to the dyndns.org name. The server will be on win2k server with a possible migration to win2k3 server if I get some extra $$.
JoGro123
By the domain name (there are a few registrars and they are all the same) Go to zoneedit.com, and sign up for a free name server Add the two nameservers ZoneEdit gives you, and add them to your new domain name Customize ZoneEdit to either go to your IP address on your server, or forward to another webpage After two - three days, going to your domain will go to your personal server
Frank
I run all of my name servers off of GoDaddy (cept for my backup one, just in case). It is completely free and very easy to manage. GoDaddy basically does everything for hosting
