User Restrictions

Question

How can I setup a guest account on my computer thats restricted to only use certain programs and only see certain files. :shiftyninja:

I'm running windows 7 right now, and I want to make the guest account so that they can't see ANY of my files or settings or anything related to my account at all, exept for the few programs i've allowed them to see/use.

You can try windows steady state. Although it's just been phased out you may be able to find an installer somewhere.

steady state just restores the computer back to the same image after its restarted doesn't it?

I just need to heavily restrict which files can be accessed by other users.

Files that you place in "My Documents" can only be accessed by that account and administrator accounts.

If you're looking to protect certain files and programs from access, maybe you should partition your drive using TrueCrypt and put the files and programs that you want to restrict access to in to the encrypted drive? It'll be a PITA for you each time you want to access those files and programs since you'll have to mount the drive each time, but it will get you the results you want.

I managed to do what I wanted using user privileges.

I turned on the guest account, then in the permissions for the C drive and the E drive (D drive is DVD drive), set them to "deny all".

when In the guest account they can only really see my desktop icons, but can't launch them unless I check the permissions of the folders the application is stored in  .
