Antivirus Help

Question

Okay, So I've used Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.2 as my anti-virus software for years and have always found it lightweight,

But recently I have been given a 3 year subscription for AVG Internet Security 2011 which I have no need for, except if I choose to replace Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.2 with,

Would this be a good choice? Have been looking around Google and not found many comparisons for Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.2 so was wondering if it is still effective even though it is now discontinued?

Have also considered Microsoft Security Essentials, the reason being, for some reason my Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.2 takes 45-50 seconds to load at boot according to Soluto which it never used to, and so am looking for something as effective or more so that runs quicker and lighter for the boot,

Thanks! :) Tim

If your version of Symantec Antivirus has been discontinued, I would definitely consider switching to another antivirus.

As for deciding which antivirus you should switch to, you can check these links:

Well it still gets regular definition updates but on the website, it says the product has been discontinued and replaced with a new product, still a reason to "definitely consider switching to another antivirus."?

Thanks, Tim

Well, I can assure you MSSE takes under 10 seconds to load, you barely notice it at all.

Your antivirus is from 2007. Maybe it's time for you to consider upgrading, especially given how bloated Symantec's products were back then.

I am currently using Microsoft Security Essentials for 2 reasons.

(1) Like everyone else, is because it is free.

(2) I was using Avira and I love it, but it takes too long to boot my computers.

If Avira started as fast as MSSE I would use it but I don't even notice that MSSE has started during startup.

SAV has been replaced with SEP. SEP continued with the numbering where SAV left off. SEP 11 is the current, 12 is going to be released shortly for corporate (12 has been avail for sbs).

IMO, give AVG to someone you hate and want to get a virus, it sucks that bad. You might as well load nothing if you are going to use AVG. Use MSE, avira, avast, or any other av suite....hell put a teddy bear between your computer and your router, you will be better protected from viruses and malware.

If you want cheap, adequate protection, MSE will serve you well. It's fairly light, unobtrusive, and free. The detection rate isn't 99%, but if I remember correctly, it's at least 95%.

If you need more than that, you should either pay for AV, change your usage habits, or research security. ;)

If you're willing to pay, Norton, Kaspersky and NOD are all pretty good. Each one has its pros and cons, but you can't really go wrong with any of them. I can't recommend

one over the other, as I am satisfied with MSE.

it may still get definition updates but the software itself is way outdated meaning it can't make full efficient use of those definitions

so yeah, it's be a good idea to switch to a new AV

I'd look into either MSE or Avast! for two of the best free AVs

if you want a good pay for definetely go with Avast! or NOD
