How to Get Img Burn to Write MP3 Filenames?

Question

1st Post:

So I updated Img Burn a while ago, and now when I go to make an MP3 CD, all the filenames are shortened:

W 13:33:04 ISO9660 File: '\Harry Potter - Nicholas Hooper - Another Story.mp3' -> 'HARRY_P3.MP3' (OS Path: D:\Music\Themes and Soundtracks\Movies\Harry Potter - Nicholas Hooper - Another Story.mp3)

I want the filename to just display as it is, not as Img Burn changes it to be.

Is there a limit on filename characters? This happens with a lot shorter ones too.

I know there is a setting to change this but what is it?

2nd Post:

So I found it under Advanced > ISO9660, but I now have three options:

Level 1 (11 characters)

Level 2 (31 characters)

Level X (219 characters)

I should think level 2 will be enough but does this change performance or anything?

3rd Post:

Seems level 2 isn't enough and I have to change it on the Joilet tab to Level X too :s

Also, it seems to have all the filenames with an _ when there is a space. Again, I am sure I have had it burn with just the space before?

Changing the Character set to ASCII seems to solve that.

4th Post:

So, the actual question is: I am burning a bunch of MP3's to a disc.

I have the file system set to: ISO960 + Joilet.

I have the character's for file names set to: Level X (219 characters) for ISO9660, Level X (110 characters) for Joilet.

I am using character set: ASCII (instead of the default set "Standard").

Is there anything blindingly wrong with the above settings?

Thanks

Have you considered just using another burning software? It sounds like ImgBurn is just overcomplicating something that should be simple. BurnAware even has an option for creating MP3 Discs.

While ImgBurn is a great program it isn't the best for burning MP3s. It can be done but it does require a bit of extra work compared to things like BurnAware like Xinok suggested.

If you do want to use ImgBurn though you need to Tools -> Create CUE File... then add the MP3s you want in the CUE editor. This will burn an audio CD that should play in any CD player (i.e. it is not an MP3 disc). At the bottom of the CUE editor you have options to get track name, artist, etc. from the Filename or TAG. Once everything is how you want you can either click Quick OK which will make the CUE file and save it in the folder with the MP3s and load the CUE file into ImgBurn ready to burn to disc. Or you can click the standard OK button which will give you a choice to save the CUE somewhere else, like your desktop, then you just load the CUE file as you would an ISO file (i.e. drag and drop it onto the ImgBurn window when it is in Write Image mode). Hope that helps.

Thanks but my CD player plays MP3's so I am good to burn them straight away.

Like I said, it used to do it fine, but since updating then it's somehow re-set a bunch of settings making it change the filenames to the above quote.

Trying out the "new" CD today though so will report back if it displays the file names correctly.

You shouldn't need to mess around with any settings, but if they've been messed up previously then resetting them would be the best bet. On the bottom of the Option's tab there's a "Reset Settings" link, that resets everything to max compatibility (We're talking specs older than I am), then on the Advanced > Restrictions > ISO9660 tab there's 2 links down the bottom, 1988 sets it to max compatibility, 1999 sets it to max functionality (which is what you want)

ImgBurn might claim it has better options for Music disks, which is probably tailored more towards general compatibility, so I'd suggest trying both.
