I had Adblock installed on my server and it worked perfect! The only problem I found is it was blocking ads/popups which was part of some kind of malware/spyware.
I understand you can configure Adblock to block malware if configured. Has anyone else done this? I did not have this setup and now wish I did as Malwarebytes attempted to remove what it detected and the system was unable to boot. If I had this setup in the first place I may have avoided gettin the spyware/malware installed in the first place.
I only noticed the machine was infected after a fake login appeared for a banking site which looked exactly the same. I attempted to block it with AdBlock thinking it was a popup then realised how dumb that was, of course it didnt work as it was a seperate app running and not chrome/firefox. I looked about the system and noticed a few folders I had not created with links to sites and general junk. Should of noticed these earlier but they wern't in obvious places really.
Suppose I deserve it after being careless and only using ClamAV for virus protection which don't even do live protection. Im sure
other people have felt stingey like me and renewed their AV protection (Had AVG server edition previously). It may not of even been my carelessness someone could
of exploited it or anything! As it wouldnt boot it pi**ed me off so I decided to try Ubuntu Server.. Well Im stuck there at the
moment haha! Cant even investigate now due to frustration I lost data also, I retrieved most of the files though which Im happy with :-)
What are others opinion of Ad Block? Its great for blocking ads but it my case actually caused me to not realise an infection. Who knows how long it was there! Cancelled all bank cards in case, now trying to lock down my Win 7 machine fully!! Makes you paranoid thinking someones gonna take a mortgage out in my name ahha!
