woodgooner
It can be done, my external 1TB is currently split so that I can use it for both my PC and Xbox360. 0 Starbuck84
Found this little tutorial: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20030613121738812 In here they talk about FAT32, instead of FAT32 you could format it as NTFS, works the same way. :)

Don't have access to a MAC. Again it is possible, my ex-roomate had the help from his UK buddy who gave a program for Windows that would do the job. 0 Starbuck84
You might need something like Transmac then. You still need to create your partitions in Windows, and format one in NTFS, while formatting the other using TransMac. This is an excellent guide on how to create a partition using Windows own tools: http://www.windows7news.com/2009/09/23/how-to-create-a-partition-in-windows-7/ . 0 woodgooner
Guide does seem like it would work, yet another problem is I'm using windows XP SP3. Its probably less powerful than windows 7. I can't use its formating tools for this partition. I gots no luck
0 +BudMan MVC Posted May 19, 2011 MVC Share Posted May 19, 2011 xbox will read fat32, not sure why you think you need hfs+ ?? disk manager is all you need to create a ntfs and fat32 partition on the disk. Are you wanting more than 32GB fat32 partition? There are plenty of windows tools to get over the formatting limit of 32GB. So please clarify why you think you need hfs+, why will fat32 not work? Why can you not just make it all fat32 if you want to use it on your xbox and windows machine? But sure you can either create ntfs part and then a fat32 part, if only 32GB windows can do it with diskmanager - if if over 32GB, this would work http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?fat32format.htm or you could always just use gparted, from a live CD, etc. There are lots and lots of options to do this. True, but the Video Files I watch on my xbox are most of the time larger than 4gb, fat32 is limited in this sense and HFS+ is not You might need something like Transmac then. Transmac lets me format it to HFS+ but wont let me split half of it. All or nothing...
0 +BudMan MVC Posted May 19, 2011 MVC Share Posted May 19, 2011 Why don't you just stream them to your xbox.. Then you don't have to worry about file size http://tversity.com/ As to transmac -- If you create the partitions in diskmanager I doubt transmac is going to format the whole disk -- just the partition, and that is without even looking at the software.. It would make no sense that it would format the whole disk.. Only the partition you want. Create your partitions in disk manager, then format your one with ntfs, and then format the other with hfs+ I think I will grab the software and put up some screen shots for you -- but to be honest, streaming a better option ;) edit: Ok sure seems like the gparted live CD will format hfs+, I will create some screenshots on how to do it. 0 Starbuck84
And if you follow this: http://www.d-silence.com/feature.php?id=246 ? It should work on your HDD. Create 2 partitions. One you format as NTFS and the other you leave blank. Launch TransMac to format the 2nd partition in HFS+ and you're good to go. AFAIK. :) There are more tools, like DiskPart (which is quite technical) or gparted like +BudMan suggested.
0 woodgooner
Ok, I tried the TransMac and it does not ask which partitions, it just says it detects multiple and it will overwrite them all. Hopefully +BudMan figures this one out because I am stumped. Streaming is ok and fine when I'm at home. Which is not always the case, I want to have my collection portable to be able to watch anywhere, xbox/pc/mac.
0 +BudMan MVC Posted May 19, 2011 MVC Share Posted May 19, 2011 Ok here you go here is $20 driver to read and write hfs+ http://www.paragon-software.com/home/hfs-windows/ Installed the 10 trial for my testing here is FREE read only http://www.catacombae.org/hfsx.html So here is booted from gparted liveCD, created ntfs and hfs+ partitions half of the 1TB each Then booted XP and it sees the ntfs partition but does not know what the hfs+ partition is. Then installed the 10 day trial of the paragon driver and here you see I can access the hfs+ drive Have Fun! edit: PC's don't native read hfs partitions - so if you portable you would need to bring along atleast the hfsexplorer to be able to read files off of the partition if using a pc that does not support the hfs+ filesystem.
