6GB RAM variant of Nokia 8.1 tipped for launch later this month or in early February

HMD Global announced the Nokia 8.1 early last month at an event in Dubai, where the company also revealed the phone's specs. Under the hood, the device includes 4GB of RAM, which is similar to that of its predecessor, the Nokia 7 Plus.

But the Nokia 8.1 may be in for an upgrade on the hardware front, at least, if a new report from Nokiapoweruser is to be believed. According to the publication, which cites sources from the retail industry, a 6GB variant of the handset will supposedly be introduced in late January or early February in India.

The pricing details of the phone have also been leaked. The 6GB variant is expected to cost between ₹28,999 (~$412) to ₹29,999 (~$426) and will reportedly be available for purchase through Nokia's online store and from physical shops. The supposed price range may make sense as it's a bit higher than the retail price of the 4GB variant in India (₹28,499 on Flipkart or ~$405).

To recap, the Nokia 8.1 sports a 6.18-inch Full HD+ LCD panel and is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 710 chipset. It runs Android 9.0 Pie and boasts a dual-camera setup on the rear (12MP + 13MP). The rumored 6GB variant is expected to ship with those specs as well.
