A faulty part is causing some 13-inch MacBook Pro batteries to expand, Apple offers fix

Apple has started the process of rolling out its battery replacement plan for the MacBook Pro 13-inch model without a Touch Bar. The firm posted a support bulletin on its website, giving users the full details of the program, citing "a component may fail causing the built-in battery to expand".

Not all MacBook Pro models are affected, rather only those built between October 2016-October 2017. If you own a laptop that might fit into that time range but aren't quite sure, you can head to the support website, type in the serial number for your unit, and see if it's eligible for repair. The serial number can be found on the retail box the laptop came in, on the bottom panel of the device, or in the 'About this Mac' menu in macOS.

If your device is affected, you will have one of three options to choose from when it comes to repair: find an authorized service provider to perform the work, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, or mail it directly to an Apple Repair Center. According to the company, this problem does not pose a safety issue, but you probably want to get it fixed as soon as possible.

Keep in mind that this replacement program does not extend your existing warranty, and will be available for five years since the release of the 13-inch non-Touch Bar MacBook Pro.
