A new trademark filing could indicate that Nintendo is planning an N64 Classic Edition

European Union Intellectual Property Office

We are still a couple months away from the release of the SNES Classic Edition, but a newly discovered trademark could indicate that Nintendo may already be working on a follow-up.

The logos above were discovered by a NeoGAF user and were filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office by Nintendo. At first glance, the logos look like standard fare and could be connected to anything. But, taking a closer look, we can see that the NES controller logo that was dsicovered has already made an appearance, having been found on the top of the retail packaging for the NES Classic Edition. Although it has not been released, if we look at promotional material for the SNES Classic Edition, we can also see a similar controller logo on the top of its retail box.

While it could be a bit of a stretch, the N64 controller logo could be an indication that Nintendo is planning to use a similar style packaging for the future release of a miniaturized version of the Nintendo 64. As mentioned before, we still have a couple months to go before the release of the SNES Classic Edition, so don't expect official news of a Nintendo 64 Classic Edition anytime soon.
