Adblock Plus Browser now on iOS, re-launched on Android

Just days before the launch of iOS 9, the Adblock Browser app has been made available on the App Store. The team behind the popular Adblock Plus software, Eyeo, created the app.

The dedicated app launch is preempting ad blocking support within Safari itself, expected to arrive not long after iOS 9 is released. Developers will be able to create extensions for the mobile browser for the first time with Apple drawing attention to content-blocking support.

Adblock Plus' Ben William's said the iOS app is based on the Kitt platform which allows developers to make extensions and create customized browsers.

"Thanks to Kitt, we were able to use our existing Adblock Plus extension for Chrome more or less out-of-the-box to create a fantastic ad-free browsing experience on iPhone. "

Adblock Browser also returned to the Google Play Store this week after more than three months in beta. The app had been controversially removed from the Play Store back in March 2013 but for now appears safe.

The Android app offers a similar experience to iOS, including being able to block tracking, malware and social media buttons.

Editors Note: If you use adblocking software we would greatly appreciate it if you whitelisted Neowin. Advertising enables us to continue the Neowin community. Neowin also offers subscriptions which remove advertising without the need for extra software.
