AdDuplex: Nokia Lumia 920 is most popular Windows Phone

Around this time every month, the Windows Phone ad advertising service AdDuplex publishes a status report on the ecosystem for Microsoft's mobile operating system based on data gathered from its ad network. The company's report from May showed that Nokia's phones commanded 83 percent of the Windows Phone market worldwide.

After a few teases this past weekend from its CEO Alan Mendelevich, AdDuplex sent Neowin their Windows Phone report for June 2013 today, based on collecting data from 701 Windows Phone apps on June 7. Worldwide, the most popular Windows Phone device is Nokia's Lumia 920 with 12 percent, but followed closely by the Nokia Lumia 710 at 11.6 percent.

AdDuplex also shows that, for the first time worldwide, 53 percent of Windows Phone owners use Windows Phone 8, which launched in November 2012. Windows Phone 7 users now make up 47 percent of the operating system's worldwide market share.

In the US, the Nokia 822 is number one with 21.3 percent, followed by the Lumia 920 at 18.8 percent and the HTC Windows Phone 8X at 14.6 percent.

The report also listed a number of unknown Windows Phone devices that were detected. Here's the list:

  • NOKIA RM-955_apac_prc – Seen exclusively in China. Has a WXGA screen.
  • NOKIA LC4301 – Probably a version of the test device we have seen before (P4301). Seen exclusively in U.S; it has an interesting firmware version (redmond_121012_123259) and runs various builds of WP 8.10.
  • NOKIA P5238 – Probably another test device. Running 8.0 though. WXGA screen.
  • HTC HTCPO881 Sprint – seen in Taiwan and U.S. (not surprising). WVGA screen.
  • HUAWEI H887L – Seen in U.S. and China. WVGA screen.
  • HUAWEI W2-T01 – this is obviously a Huawei W2 we’ve seen in multiple leaks. Apparently it was supposed to be a higher end phone, but from what we see (only four sightings) it has a WVGA display.
  • SAMSUNG SGH-I187 – Seen in Korea and U.S. only 10 times. 720p screen

As we reported earlier today, the newest member of the Nokia Lumia family, the Lumia 925, went on sale for the first time worldwide in Germany today. Nokia looks like it will release a 41 megapixel Lumia device, code name EOS, sometime this summer.
