With the demise of Microsoft Flight earlier this year, the only free-to-play PC game offered by the company is Age of Empires Online, the RTS title developed by Gas Powered Games. This week, it was announced that the game would be getting a major new content addition; the Norse civilization.
A post on the game's official website goes over the details of this new playable faction. Microsoft and developer Gas Powered Games state:
Offense is the name of the game for the Norse. Controlling the map and overwhelming the enemy is made much easier with the unique construction ability of the infantry. This allows the Norse to launch sustained attacks from anywhere on the map. This also allows villagers to concentrate on gathering resources, rather than building factories.
The new Norse faction will add a number of new units to play with, including the melee themed Throwing Axeman, the menacing War Dog and the powerful Berserker. One of the new research bonuses for the Norse faction is the Burning Pitch. The site says, "Once research is complete, Fortresses can shoot fire arrows at enemy units that deal damage over time."
The new Norse civilization will be added into Age of Empires Online later this October.
