Machine learning and image recognition are gaining importance in today's world with Google bringing the technology to the masses with Google Lens and similar efforts from Microsoft's AI team. DeepLens is Amazon's first venture into the image recognition world, and the company is offering the hardware as well as a bunch of tools to make it easier for developers to leverage the power of the cloud and machine learning. The $250 camera features a 4-megapixel lens, an Intel Atom processor, a 2D microphone array, dual-band WiFi, USB and micro HDMI. There's no love loss as far as connectivity is concerned on the device. On the software side, it is powered by Ubuntu 16.04 with GreenGrass Core for efficient performance on the device.
Amazon will begin shipping the DeepLens camera in 2018, but the pre-orders for the device have already begun. Developers can attend AWS workshops to know more about creating apps using the device.
