Amazon announced today that it has added a new tab for finding free content on the Fire TV. The digital media player's top navigation bar for its main menu has been updated with the new "Free" tab that provides an easier way for customers to look for movies and TV shows without any subscriptions.
The new tab houses a selection of curated content from thousands of movies, TV shows, and news programs that you can view at no cost. This section highlights a row of featured streaming apps including IMDb TV, Tubi, Pluto TV, Crackle, The CW, and the News app offering ad-supported content. In addition, other free content discovery apps such as Twitch, Red Bull, PBS, and PBS Kids are available as well.
Regarding the new content discovery feature, Michael Polin, Amazon's Senior Product Marketing Manager for Fire TV, wrote in a blog post:
"Over the past year, we’ve received great feedback from Fire TV customers about their growing interest in watching free content and their desire for an easier way to find the free content that is available on Fire TV. We wanted to build a curated experience that provides a simple way for customers to find movies and shows they love while also highlighting apps that offer free to watch content they may not have known about."
Polin says new shows to this library of free content would be added on a regular basis. The new tab is rolling out to U.S. customers starting today. The new destination complements a recent feature called #AtHome that was added to the Fire TV and Fire Tablet devices to help users gain access to free content from Amazon's 100+ partners.
