Last month, we heard about a button-like device that, when activated, allowed a specific product to be ordered and delivered quickly without the use of a computing device. If that sounded a bit strange, you might be interested to hear about a new shipping method Amazon is about to begin testing in Germany.
Starting this May, Amazon will ask German residents to pilot a new program that allows Amazon Prime members to choose the trunk of their car as a delivery location. The new delivery method will be made possible through partnerships with Audi and DHL Parcel, the former of which is of key importance.
Owners of Audi vehicles that have keyless access as well as wireless tracking technology are the only ones that will be able to use the service during this testing period. This technology is required for secure and monitored delivery of goods ordered by customers since DHL will temporarily have access to a customer's vehicle for the purpose of delivering an order in the trunk of the vehicle.
Being able to have your newly-purchased Amazon Echo delivered straight to your car trunk seems like an excellent way to avoid theft of delivered goods. Kelly Cheeseman, a spokesperson for Amazon, said the company intends to offer "Amazon Prime members around the world the ability to use the trunk of their car as a delivery location”.
