Amazon updates Alexa on Windows 10 so it works in the background

Today, Amazon announced an update for its Alexa app on Windows 10. In fact, it's the first real update to the app that was announced since the app showed up on the Microsoft Store back in November.

Rather than having to click a button to talk to the digital assistant, you can now use it completely hands-free. That also means that you can still use Alexa while it's running in the background. Amazon also said that you'll be able to toggle between hands-free and push-to-talk at any time, so if you like the old experience better, you can still go back to it.

The news comes as Microsoft announced some new Cortana features that make it more conversational during its Build conference. These days though, the two virtual assistants are meant to be much more friendly on Windows 10.

The firm says that the Alexa app will update when users open it. If you want to update your app or install it, you can find it on the Microsoft Store here.
