American Truck Simulator developer shuts down in-game road mirroring real-life incident

Paving the way for even more authenticity in simulation games, SCS Software, the developer behind the Truck Simulator games has announced a novel new addition coming to American Truck Simulator.

Although it technically is a new addition, the update will be blocking something from the game as a feature, specifically, a road that suffered a landslide in real life earlier this year. A section of the California coastal Highway 1 will be inaccessible following the next update heading to American Truck Simulator until the road is once again operational in the real world.

Work in progress screenshots provided by the developer in its blog post even shows off that the landslide is being recreated in-game, with road signs and police cars blocking the route from both sides.

All in all, considering the newly buried area due to the landslide is estimated to be 13 acres of land, it may be some time before American Truck Simulator players get to drive on this popular scenic route again.

Fans of the series have reacted positively to this upcoming change, with requests for similar map changes for the studio's other title, Euro Truck Simulator. It will be interesting to see if the developer will continue to add in real-life situations into their games, or if this event is a one off. In any case, American Truck Simulator drivers going past this area will have to depend on alternate routes for now.
