Samsung unveiled the original Galaxy Tab S way back in June 2014 - but despite its age, those who purchased the device from Verizon can now look forward to an OS update that's started to roll out.
Given that many manufacturers and carriers don't typically update their devices beyond two years after their announcement or launch, that's not bad going. It's perhaps slightly impressive when you consider that this 'new' update is actually Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which Google originally released just under a year ago.
As Verizon's release notes for the update point out, Galaxy Tab S owners will get all the sweet goodness of the Marshmallow update, bumping the device's software version up to MMB29M.T807VVRU1CPG6.
However, users should be aware that the following apps will be removed:
- Amazon Appstore
- Amazon Music
- e-Meeting (stub)
- VZ Navigator
- WebEx
Sadly, considering the age of the device, it seems extremely unlikely that it will ever be officially updated to the very newest version of the OS - Android 7.0 Nougat, which Google released last month.
