Google has been working on its next big update to Android for months, but many manufacturers still haven't upgraded their devices to the last major version of Android. Google released Android 7.0 Nougat almost nine months ago.
LG began its Android 7.0 rollout for the G5, its 2016 flagship, way back in November, and in the weeks that followed, every major US carrier - Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and (eventually) AT&T - upgraded the device to Nougat. But for unknown reasons, the unlocked G5 in the US has been waiting for many more months for the update to arrive.
Now, the wait is finally over. As Android Police reports, Android 7.0 has begun rolling out over the air to the unlocked G5 (model number RS988) in the United States, bumping up the software version to RS98821a.
Along with the usual tasty treats in the Nougat update, LG has also included the Android security updates from April, rather than the more recent May security patches that are already making their way to other devices.
