Android 7.0 Nougat will rollout to the Honor 8 starting Monday

Huawei Japan, the Japanese division of Huawei, has announced that the Japanese rollout of Android 7.0 Nougat will begin on January the 16th. Huawei initially announced that the Android 7.0 Nougat rollout for the Honor 8 would begin in February, but it seems that date has since been expedited.

Beta testers for the Honor 8 began receiving Android 7.0 Nougat update on their devices back in November and it appears that it has since exited that phase, at least in Japan, earlier this month.

The 1.97GB update will be incrementally rolled out and is expected to reach most Japanese Honor 8 users within a few weeks. There is no indication on when it will begin to reach users elsewhere, but the Japanese rollout is a good indication that development is still taking place for the phone and that it's taking place fairly quickly.

Huawei will be putting EMUI 5.0 on top of Android, which is their own customized version of the OS. Some of the features being included in this release include:

  • Ability to run different profiles in parallel – switch effortlessly between their professional and personal lives.
  • Machine learning enables EMUI 5.0 to dynamically optimize processing resources by analyzing the user’s behaviour over time and prioritizing frequently used apps.
  • EMUI 5.0 comes with improved capabilities and flexibility around security. For example, the user can ensure specific apps stay ultra-secure with such features as App Lock.
  • EMUI 5.0 also features a more intelligent power management system, with a selection of power saving modes so you can manage your device’s battery consumption more easily.

Which are in addition to the standard features that come with Android 7.0 Nougat.
