Today, Apple announced a sweeping refresh of all its computing products at WWDC 2017. Although the spec bumps and slashed prices were welcome, it was the unexpected iMac Pro that really stole the show.
The new iMac Pro will arrive in a stealthier and more menacing Space Gray color and will also pack quite an impressive set of specifications. The unit will have Apple's 5K display and will utilize a new dual centrifugal fan structure to keep cooling quiet and efficient. This is required because the computer can be configured with either an 8-core, 10-core, and even an 18-core Xeon processor and will be graphically powered by AMD's latest Vega GPU. The iMac Pro will also allow for up to 128GB ECC memory, along with up to 4TB using SSDs.
Along with the specifications above, Apple will also bring many new features to the iMac line with its Pro model like a 1080p FaceTime camera, UHS-II SDXC card slot, four Thunderbolt 3 ports, a VESA mounting option, and more. Since this is only a preview, Apple will undoubtedly be showing off more as the time gets closer for a retail release. For now, the firm has stated that the computer will arrive in December and will be priced starting at $4999.
