Apple has placed an order with Samsung for 70 million flexible OLED displays

As Apple readies its next handsets for 2017, there has been a long-standing rumor that the firm will also offer a more premium model that will be a display of technology that redefines the image of what an iPhone can be. While there have been wild rumors over the past several months, it appears now that things have started to solidify.

According to Nikkei, Apple has placed an order with Samsung for 70 million flexible OLED displays. This could suggest that the firm could be ready to offer a handset that has a near bezel-less design similar to Honor's Magic. Although Samsung has offered a curved display in its smartphones for quite some time, this would be Apple's first foray into the format. Unfortunately, Samsung declined to corroborate the information obtained by Nikkei, citing privacy of customer orders.

Beyond just offering a curved OLED display, the new handset could also include wireless charging and some augmented reality features, both of which would also firsts for Apple. While the handset does sound fantastic, we will have to wait for an official reveal to see what actually manifests later this year.
