Apple is releasing the iOS 14, iPadOS 14, and tvOS 14 public betas today

It's only been a couple of weeks since Apple first announced iOS 14, and developers have been able to test it out since then. Developer Beta 2 was released earlier this week, and now it's time for the public beta, along with public betas of iPadOS 14 and tvOS 14.

iOS 14 is set to be quite a significant update for iPhones and iPod Touch devices. Widgets are getting a fresh redesign, coming in different shapes and sizes, and now you finally add them to the home screen. There's also a new app drawer called App Library. Not only is this a one-stop-shop to find all of your apps, but you can now choose to have apps not display on your home screens at all. It's one of the biggest visual overhauls that the OS has ever seen.

iPadOS 14 actually doesn't include widgets on the home screen or the App Library. It does have the redesigned widgets that are still in the widget drawer, but a big focus on iPadOS 14 is handwriting recognition. Apple aimed to make writing with the Apple Pencil as easy as using a keyboard, adding gestures for a hard return on text, removing text, and more.

tvOS 14 isn't a huge update, which really isn't surprising. It adds picture-in-picture, and support for playing 4K videos that are streamed over AirPlay.

If you want to start testing out the new updates without having to pirate a configuration profile, you can sign up here. The sections for macOS 11 Big Sur and watchOS 7 are still listed as coming soon.
