Apple now offers a Blackmagic Design external GPU product for its computers

Today, Apple announced updates to its MacBook Pro line of laptops but also released an external GPU solution created in partnership with Blackmagic Design.

The new accessory will allow those that have a newer Apple laptop or desktop to harness the power of a full-blown graphics card by simply plugging the Blackmagic eGPU into the unit's Thunderbolt 3 port. The eGPU is a custom solution that houses a Radeon Pro 580 graphics processor with 8GB of video memory. As far as connections go, you will find two Thunderbolt 3 ports, HDMI 2.0 output, and four USB 3.1 ports.

If you need a boost in graphical power and own a supported computer (MacBook Pro 2016 or later, iMac 2017 or later, and iMac Pro 2017 or later), this solution might be for you. Be forewarned that you will not be able to upgrade the card inside of the eGPU, so you will be stuck with the Radeon Pro 580 for the life of the product. You can now order the Blackmagic Design eGPU from the Apple website for $699.
