Apple planning keynote on September 7th; tablet a no show?

Several rumor sites are now reporting that Apple will be holding its now annual media event on September 7th. The event has been used in the past to launch devices like the iPod nano in 2005 and the iPod touch in 2007. Apple has not confirmed the event so it is still speculation at this point.

The event is likely a launching pad for rumored updates to the nano, touch and iTunes 9. Several cases had appeared online earlier this year depicting cameras on the next generation nano and touch and updates to iTunes 9 would likely include Blu-Ray support and some sort of social media integration.

FinancialTimes also speculated a few weeks ago that Apple was working with record companies to bundle interactive booklets and possibly even applications with full album purchases on iTunes. This project, codenamed Cocktail, is also rumored to launch at the event.

The real question on everyone's mind is whether or not the Apple tablet will launch at this event. While initial rumors stated it would, sources speaking with TheLoop say the device will not be launched until 2010 and this September event will focus strictly on music.
