Best Buy slashes cost of original Microsoft Band to $100 ahead of successor's release

Microsoft seems set to launch its next wearable fitness device following leaked renderings of the Band 2, and now a major retail chain is slashing the price of the original Band in anticipation of its successor.

As spotted by Windows Central, Best Buy is now offering the original Microsoft Band for just $100, the cheapest price at which the fitness tracker has ever been sold. The Band launched in October 2014 for $200, though Microsoft has offered the device for $150 in several recent sales.

Microsoft is expected to reveal the Microsoft Band 2 at an event on Oct. 6, where the next Lumia smartphones and Surface tablets are also expected to be announced. According to leaks, the major difference between the original Band and its successor will be a curved display. Some rumors have indicated the device may also run Windows 10's Internet of Things variant, though others have stated it will keep the original's dedicated firmware.
