BioShock Infinite delayed

Take Two has announced BioShock Infinite will be delayed until February 26, 2013. The game was originally set for an October 16, 2012, release.

The company released the following statement:

Ken Levine, Creative Director of Irrational Games, stated, “When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing. Since then, we’ve uncovered opportunities to make Infiniteinto something even more extraordinary. Therefore, to give our talented team the time they need to deliver the best Infinite possible, we’ve decided to move the game’s release to February.”

Both previous BioShock games have seen similar delays. The first BioShock was originally planned for release in June 2007 before being delayed until August 2007. Its sequel, BioShock 2, saw a delay similar to BioShock Infinte's: BioShock 2 was originally planned for an October 2009 release date before being pushed into February 2010.

BioShock Infinite is in development by original BioShock developer, Irrational Games. The game will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. A direct sequel to the first game in the franchise, BioShock 2, was created by 2K Marin. BioShock Infinite will not serve as a sequel, however; instead, the game is considered a spiritual successor, abandoning the story and environment of the first two games while keeping the same style of gameplay.

In addition to BioShock Infinite, Irrational Games is currently working on an original BioShock game for the PlayStation Vita.
