Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system is now ahead of BlackBerry for the third most used mobile OS. That may be one of the reasons why current BlackBerry CEO John Chen wants to add support for Windows Phone to the company's popular BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
In an new interview with CrackBerry.com, Chen stated some of the things that he and BlackBerry plan to do to get the company back on track after a disastrous 2013. One of them is expanding its BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) business which Chen says makes money for the company but added, "It's just not growing.
Chen said:
I could put a sales team on Wall Street. I know how to do this up and down Wall Street … we will go in and tell them why BES is the best thing for them, and go through the road map, the offerings, and all that good stuff. We're going to protect their investment in iPhone, and Android, and everywhere else, even with Windows Phones.
Many businesses use BES on their servers and adding Windows Phone support could allow for more employees, especially those who bring their own handsets to work, to access their company's servers with their own devices.
Chen also talked about expanding its BBM online messaging service to iOS and Android, stating that since the launch to both of those new platforms in October, it has added 40 million new users on top of the 45 million BlackBerry subscribers. Sadly, Chen did not state if BBM would also be released for Windows Phone.
