Blizzard: StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm is "99% done"

StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm is the upcoming Zerg-themed expansion pack for Blizzard's sci-fi RTS sequel that was first released in July 2010. The good news is that, according to a new story at Kotaku, StarCraft II's lead designer Dustin Browder confirmed that Heart of the Swarm is "99% done."

Even with that admission,  StarCraft II fans shouldn't get their hopes up on the expansion being released soon. Browder adds that while all of Heart of the Swarm's missions are done and all of its new units are ready to go, " ... it's whether we like it or not that's an open question. It's the tuning and polish that really takes us a long time, and that's where we get into the unknowns."

Last week, just after E3 2012 concluded, Blizzard showed off a playable build of StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm at the MLG Spring Championship in Anaheim, California. Blizzard posted up a new video for the occasion as well, showing off some of the expansion's new units in action.

The lesson? While the content in the expansion may be done, Blizzard will continue to polish and fix bugs in Heart of the Swarm for as long as they can. In other words, it may be several months before the expansion is released.
