Box comes to Windows 8

Although Microsoft would almost certainly like for Windows 8 owners to use their own in-house SkyDrive for their cloud-based data storage, there are other options available.

The new Box app for Windows 8 was revealed in a blog post by the company today. It claims that the app " ... includes all the features you love from our other mobile apps, plus it takes advantage of built-in platform functionality to create a deeply integrated experience with the operating system that’s exclusive to Windows 8."

Among the new features is one that accesses the pinch-to-zoom feature. Box says that when users create this gesture on a Windows 8 touch screen:

You’ll get a nice summary view that lets you jump to any letter, date or size (when sorted by name, date and size respectively) – built using the Semantic Zoom functionality on Windows 8. This will definitely come in handy when hunting for that one file starting with “W.”

You can see updates to any files stored in a Box account via the Windows 8 Live Tiles feature and more. Box will offer 25 GB of free storage space for any HP Windows 8 PC owner and if you get the Samsung ATIV Tab, you will get a whopping 50 GB of free storage.
