The Boxee Box has been one of the most talked about set-top boxes since it was revealed to the public in December of last year. It made an immediate impact due to its promise of power at a good price, flexible and ever-maturing software, and unorthodox submerged cube design. The D-Link built device continues to maintain customer anticipation, but many are wondering why it still isn’t available since its original launch window was set for the first half of 2010.
Boxee took to their blog today to confirm that the Boxee Box is now on schedule to ship this November in the US and Canada. They are aware of frustrations, and said in their post, “We realize many of you have waited months to purchase the Boxee Box, and we know how frustrating this is. Believe us when we say that both Boxee & D-Link want to start selling Boxee Boxes yesterday.”
They mention Flash 10.1 support as a high priority for the box, and Engadget speculates that Adobe’s software may have been a contributing factor to the delay.
Hopefully Boxee can deliver this time around. They may soon be facing a lot more competition from the likes of Google TV, and if the rumblings are to be believed, a re-concerted effort from Apple to conquer the living room.
