Computer Associates is gambling that one size fits all when it comes to information security. In the coming months, CA will unify its entire eTrust security product line into three segments--access management, identity management, and threat management--says Russ Artzt, CA's co-founder and an executive VP. As reported by InformationWeek last month, the company also is expected to release eTrust Command Center, which is designed to collect and correlate security events from a multitude of devices, such as firewalls, intrusion-detection systems, servers, and routers.
Command Center will manage CA's security products and offerings from other vendors, including Check Point Software Technologies Ltd.'s Firewall-1 and VPN software, Artzt says. Command Center runs on CA's portal app, Cleverpath, and although there are similarities between Command Center and the company's system-management software Unicenter, Command Center won't require a Unicenter deployment, he says.
CA is well-positioned to deliver on its promises, says Pete Lindstrom, director of security strategies at Hurwitz Group. Adds Lindstrom, "CA has a wide breadth of security products, and centralized security management is definitely where the security is heading."
