Command & Conquer makes its way to smartphones with Rivals

Command & Conquer is one of the most popular real-time strategy (RTS) series in gaming history with over a dozen entries spread out over the past couple of decades. However, the series has been in a state of hibernation with the last official title in the franchise, Tiberium Alliances, released as a free online browser game back in 2012.

This changes today with the announcement of Command & Conquer: Rivals for smartphones.

In a surprise move at its Play conference at E3, EA took to the stage to demo Rivals for smartphones. The title is inspired by Clash Royale, but it allows you to control your units after deployment. Players are tasked with destroying their opponent's base using a plethora of different military units as well as missiles. According to the developers, two missiles launched on the opponent means game over for them.

The game offers Tiberium currency as a starting resource, to allow players to build their units. As time progresses, they can also build mining units to harvest more resources, similar to other titles in the Command & Conquer franchise. There will likely be different varieties of maps and game modes available as well. You can watch the cinematic trailer for the game below:

Command & Conquer: Rivals will arrive as a free-to-play title for Android and iOS later this year, however, players on the former platform can register now for pre-alpha testing.
