Crackdown is now free to claim on Xbox Marketplace for Xbox 360 and Xbox One

Crackdown, the 2007 Xbox 360 game that started it all, is being given away on the Xbox Store. Once again there aren't any announcements attached to it, but unlike the previous promotion that turned out to be a free play weekend, this one is actually a freebie to keep forever. As isn't any information on when will the offer come to an end, it's a good idea to grab it while its up.

Also, thanks to Microsoft's Backward Compatibility program, the giveaway isn't restricted to Xbox 360 owners, meaning anyone with a console from the Xbox One family can jump in on the promotion as well. Moreover, Crackdown is one of the few Xbox 360 titles that have received the Xbox One X enhancement treatment, with the game running at 4K resolution on the powerful console as a result.

The open-world game was a runaway hit for Microsoft in 2007, receiving critical acclaim and selling over 1.5 million copies by the end of its launch year. A sequel spawned in 2010, but failed to capture the same audience. Hopefully, the upcoming third entry in the series can bring the Microsoft platform exclusive series back to its former glory.

With the X018 event just around the corner - set to kick off on November 10 -, expect Microsoft to have more news on Crackdown 3 during it.
