Custom tags are coming to OneNote for Windows 10 and Mac in January

Soon, you'll be able to use custom tags in OneNote for Windows 10 and OneNote for macOS, Microsoft has announced. The feature has been available in the desktop OneNote app on Windows for some time, and this is one of the most requested features for the newer Windows 10 app.

Right now, the desktop app isn't being supported with new features, so Microsoft is working hard to bring the last few bits to OneNote for Windows 10 for feature parity. The firm says that custom tags were "passionately requested" by users.

To use custom tags, go to the Tags dropdown menu and select the option to create a new tag. You'll have the option to choose an icon to associate with it as well. Once you make it, you'll be able to use it in the same way that you'd use any other tag.

That also means that there will be better search functionality. Custom tags will give you better control over how you organize your notes, and you can easily search for tags and go directly to the spot where it's located.

Custom tags will roll out for OneNote for Windows 10 and OneNote for Mac in January.
