Darkworks announces survival horror game Black Death

Darkworks, the France-based game developer, has quietly announced its next game project, Black Death, via the launch of the game's official web site. It's a survival horror game which is something that the developer has handled before. It created Alone In the Dark: The New Nightmare in 2001 and later released Cold Fear for publisher Ubisoft in 2005. According to the developer, Black Death will be "a fresh twist on the survival genre." It's due out for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms.

The premise of the game is that an unnamed city on the east coast of the US has been hit with a dark cloud that infects and sickens the city's inhabitants. Later the infected people turn into "strange creatures with various powers and group behaviours". The player has to survive the mutated humans while also finding a way to fight the infection. You will have the option to either kill the mutated humans or cure them of the mysterious disease. The game's web site has some concept artwork, a brief trailer that really doesn't show anything and more info about Black Death. A release date has yet to be announced.

Darkworks had been working on another game for Ubisoft called I Am Alive. The game is supposed to feature the player character fighting to stay alive after an earthquake hits the city of Chicago. Ubisoft announced the game at E3 in 2008. However in 2009 Ubisoft announced that it moved development of I Am Alive to one of its internal development teams. While the game is not canceled, Ubisoft has yet to give a status report on the game's progress in some time.
