Even though the extended Destiny 2 console beta has successfully been completed and console gamers will enjoy the official release on the 6th of next month, PC gamers are still looking forward to the upcoming beta to get a first taste of the popular multiplayer shooter.
Just two days ago, Bungie announced that several changes and updates are coming to the Destiny 2 PC beta. Specifically, the focus lies on the game's PvP modes known as the Cubicle. The company has decided to tune the two available matchmaking modes, Quickplay and Competitive, separately in the effort of improving the gaming experience.
Multiplayer design lead Lars Bakken shed some more light on the topic:
One of our goals for Destiny 2 has been to create two different ways to challenge yourself against other players
From this point forward, to allow for more varied experiences between the playlists, matchmaking for Quickplay and Competitive will be tuned separately.
Essentially, Bungie wants to provide two different routes for gamers depending on their gameplay objective. In Quickplay, matchmaking will be much shorter in favor of the action, while Competitive will feature a longer matchmaking time in order to ensure that the skill level of the competing players will be more closely matched.
But the changes don't stop there. Certain tweaks have been made to the game type rules to better reflect the differences in the gameplay. For example, the winning score in Control has been bumped up to 100 from the previous 75 to allow more time for the players to play the game and use their abilities, while the Mercy rule has been tuned to trigger less often. Finally, more changes are being implemented that include mainly bug fixes, ironing out glitches and further balancing to the characters' abilities.
Destiny 2 PC open beta is expected to become available on the 29th of August, while users who have pre-ordered the game will enjoy a one-day early access giving them a headstart. The official release of the PC version is set to take place on the 24th of October.
