Donkey Kong is coming to Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle in June

At last year's E3, Ubisoft made a surprise announcement of a crossover game including its Rabbids franchise and Mario from Nintendo. The company also promised future DLC content for the game, some of which has already been released.

Now, the latest and largest content update for the game has been revealed by Ubisoft. The update is coming in June and it includes a whole new world based on the Donkey Kong franchise rather than Mario's Mushroom Kingdom, which is where the original game takes place.

The new game mode, Donkey Kong Adventure, predictably features Donkey Kong as a main playable character, but it also adds a new Rabbid version of Cranky Kong. In the interview above, Ubisoft talks about why it chose Cranky, saying that other members of the Kong family might have been "too expected".

Each of the two characters brings new weapons along with it. Donkey Kong can grab almost any object or character on the screen and throw it at enemies or elsewhere, and it also has a weapon called Bwananarang, which can hit multiple enemies at once. Likewise, Rabbid Cranky has a new weapon called the Boombow, which is a short-range weapon with wide-spread attacks and also serves as Cranky's cane. Both characters also have new special abilities to help them make better use of their items.

Mario himself is absent from the Donkey Kong Adventure, but Rabbid Peach, which was already part of the original game, makes an appearance as a playable character here as well, benefiting from many of the new items included in the latest adventure.

Ubisoft promises about 10 hours of content in the new DLC, but there's no word yet on how much it will cost. However, players who have bought the game's season pass, or Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle Gold Edition are already entitled to the upcoming game mode.
